Single women who could not pursue their education during the armed conflict have gradually started to accomplish their dreams.
Ek Maya BK, an armed conflict victim, is all set to complete her higher education. After completing her education, she would dedicate her in providing services to the society, she said.
"I could not pursue my education due to the armed conflict," said BK.
She lost her husband in a Maoists attack at Naumule Police Office in 2057 B.S.
The tragic incident shattered her dream and she could not come out of it for few years. But she never gave up hope and responsibility of rearing the children which shifted on her young shoulder after the tragic demise of her husband. "I want to study for myself and children," said BK.
She however found it hard to cope with the vagaries of being a member of dalit community which often face caste based discrimination.
Her one daughter is pursuing nursing course and the other one is studying at Grade 6.
B.K is now perusing her PLC from Gyanodaya Higher Secondary located at Khajura, Banke.
"I go to college during the morning time and spent my day for social service," she added.
B.K including seven single women has completed their School Level Certificate (SLC) and perusing plus-two level education at the district. The locals said that the zeal of these women was praiseworthy in a society dominated by patriarchal mindset.
BK including other seven single women has become a source of encouragement for those who lost their husbands during the armed conflict.
Shova B.C, president Single Women Forum, said that the step taken by the local single women has rendered help in bringing alteration at the village and challenged the patriarchal mindset of the society.
In Palpa, Secondary level students of Baldengadi Village Development Committee (VDC) of district have been compelled to walk six hours to reach their school.
The other VDCs of the district have secondary level schools but Baledengadi despite does not have this facility. The VDC has had only have six primary schools and one lower secondary school. This is the reason that the students have to walk a long way to reach at Satyawati and Juthapauwa VDCs’ schools from Ladhuwapani, Chidipani and Sukdamaral for secondary level education.
Ramesh Karki, a local of the VDC, informed that owing to a lack of secondary schools in their own village, the students have got no time even to do their homework. Likewise, the students of the VDC have to travel to Saljhandi of Rupandehi and Butwal for their secondary level education.
Jit Bahadur Karki, a local, said they had made an appeal to the authority for opening up secondary level education facility but the authority has yet to reciprocate to their demand.
